Go Goa, Go Carnival
Simply applauded as the festival of fun, frolic and music, the
Carnival is celebrated just before Lent in February. You can see
colourful parades trimmed with mind-blowing music and lavish floats,
and the uproarious festivities of three days are presided over by King
Momo.
Awe-inspiring Hindu Festivals
A number of Hindu festivals are celebrated all over Goa which
portrays a careful preservation of ancient rituals and customs.
Chovoth is the most popular Hindu Festival, when clay idols of Lord
Ganesh are worshipped with great pomp and show, before their immersion
in water. Don't miss the festivals at Shirgao, where devotees of
goddess Lairai walk in the middle of the night on burning hot coals!
Celebrating The Christian Aroma
Goa is the only place besides Rome that has the annual Procession of
All Saints (Goa Velha). Apart from the bustle of the cities, the
serene villages also spring up to life during the festive times. On
the 6th of January every year, villages celebrate the 'Journey of
Three Kings' - who came bearing gifts for Lord Jesus - with
reenactment by local boys who impressively groom themselves for the
exciting role.
